Advocacy and Campaign Team (PPACT) Intern - Boston, Worcester and Springfield, MA (Fall'19)
As reproductive healthcare faces unprecedented attacks, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (PPAF) and its coalition partners are fighting to safeguard millions of people in Massachusetts by advancing legislation and electing champions who will protect and promote Planned Parenthood’s mission. To reflect this increased urgency, PPAF is gearing up for the 2019 municipal election season by hiring a team of fall campaign interns to help grow our electoral footprint and ensure we increase the number of reproductive health advocates elected to the local governments of Boston, Worcester, and Springfield.
PPACT interns will gain firsthand knowledge of organizing and electoral work, including exposure to how local campaigns are built and carried out. Projects will include volunteer engagement, phone banking, canvassing door to door, and other activities to build PPAF’s power in Massachusetts and elect pro-reproductive health candidates. All PPACT members will receive robust training, ongoing mentorship from PPAF staff, and opportunities to do hands-on campaign work in the field. Additionally, PPACT interns will attend weekly training seminars with a PPAF organizer to learn more about the organization’s advocacy work, meet folks from different PPLM departments to learn about their work, and volunteer on PPAF advocacy events. Time will be spent between PPAF and working directly for the campaigns of PPAF endorsed candidates, approximately a 70/30 split between the campaign office and PPAF. Each intern will be asked to commit to at least one weeknight and one weekend day to this program. We will begin the program with one day of onboarding during the second week of September, and the program will run 10 weeks up through mid November.
The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF) is the advocacy and political arm of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM). Formed in 1984, PPAF believes that working within the political process is critical to advancing PPLM’s mission to increase access to sexual and reproductive health services and comprehensive sexuality education for women, men, and families across Massachusetts.
